General practice is the front door of the NHS: tell your MP to show they value practice nursing

General practice nursing staff deliver government funded NHS services. However, unlike nursing staff directly employed by the NHS your employer dictates your pay and terms & conditions. Due to this many general practice nursing staff only have access to basic statutory benefits including sick pay, maternity or parental leave.

In England, unlike the rest of the UK, there are no structures to ensure that the government funding distributed for staff pay is used by employers to fund staff pay. There is no ring-fenced funding to protect fair pay and in turn, staffing levels.

This means many general practice nurses in England don't receive promised pay increases despite the funding being given by the government. This is not fair.

General practice nursing staff are integral to the government’s ambitions to shift care from hospitals to the community.

Write to your MP and demand they stand up for you and your GP nursing colleagues by holding primary care networks and employers in their constituency accountable.
